I am trying to figure out how to get in touch with a physicist I know. 
He claims to send and receive mail from a machine called "FNAL", and 
we both suspect that it is attached to something that is (or was?) called
"hepnet", allegedly a network composed of people doing high-energy
physics work. 

Can anyone fill me in on whether the "hepnet" actually exists, and 
if so, whether and where it intersects with the internet?
