I got a book in the mail a while back somewhat by mistake; I've a 
communication problem at my house back in the Ozark boonies, and I 
ordered "Adaptive Antennas, concepts & performance" by R.T. Compton Jr. 
of Ohio state. I was trying to boost a cordless phone so I could connect 
with the lines 3 miles away. 
  He told me how to build an antenna system that could respond to the 
effects of noise and JAMMING(!). Reading between the lines of what he 
said, partly cause I coudn't read the lines about modified LMS loops, 
Applebaum arrays, and a recursive least-squares preprocessor.... I 
discerned that the Soviet Block governments no longer, or not much 
longer, could effectively control wireless communication with their 
societies.
  We didn't blow them out of the water; we blew them out of the airwaves. 
No wonder the cold war is over. 
  I just wanted to say thanks to the members of your brotherhoood who no 
doubt had a lot to do with the dawn of peace.

PS: I still have problems trying to make or buy an FM transciever that 
can go 3 miles; if anyone knows where I should look to find a circuit 
diagram for a 3 or 4 watt unit that could operate in the TV band (we 
don't get much tv back that way either, so I may as well use it for 
something), I would be even more grateful.
