I am writing a thesis involving implementing a - more or less - generalized
browsing tool. By generalized I mean able to navigate on many kinds of "language units": Functions, variables, modules, classes, statement types, (comments?), invariants, theorems or whatever your language happens to have.

Could anyone tell what's the state of the art in browsing tools, apart from
the Smalltalk browser ? (A general outline; what are they capable of ?)
