Is there any public domain or free source for the C standard library?

We are trying to use GNU GCC to cross compile C programs for an
experimental 68000 single board computer for a student project.  We are
currently in need of a C standard library so that "stdio", "strings",
"memory", "malloc"  etc can work.

We look for sources (preferrably in C) since we need to customise some
of these routines to make them work with drivers on our single board
computer.  No file I/O is needed.

Can any one help?
