That's funny.  Everyone is ignoring a "little guy" again (just as IBM'ers
and Macists ignore Amiga innovations), and that is the PaloMAX project,
which has had a 16 bit  controller option for over a year.  It had
diskperfs of about 550-600K/sec too.  Naturally, this was done after
I built mine, with an 8 bit controller.  But 295K/sec isn't bad for an 8 bit
non-DMA controller.
