But to further show my ignorance, what does BTW mean at the beginning of one of your sentences? As I read your message it tells me that all my disks are good to use with 310b and that if I want to get rid of all data on the disks (including) any sys files then I should use the format command in my 310b. Do you mean that the format/I wont work to get rid of the sys files but I should(could) use the command on new disks only? --- * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (Opus 1:343/3) ------------------------------ Date: 12-09-89 (15:49) To: DAVID HEID Subject: BTW From: AMER NELSON Stands for "by the way" I had to ask the first time I saw it, too. ++ Amer ++ --- * Origin: Glacier Peak Rainbow, Bellevue, WA - 206/644-8431 (Opus 1:343/3) ------------------------------ Date: 12-11-89 (17:24) To: AMER NELSON Subject: RE: BTW From: CARL HOUSEMAN Do most people know the other abbrevs? Does such a thing actualy exist in a exectuta DS>form? A kill file is specific to USENET news. It enables you to deselect messages by subject or author - you simply just don't see those messages. (And yes, there are cases where ignorance is bliss!) I've heard of a similar capability for reading EchoMail called Kill Dog (or something like that), but I don't know whether it's in general use. Perhaps someone else can fill you in on this. On my end I'm developing some software which exchanges mail among several mail packet formats. I filter mail from this echo thru it to prepare it for the Rainbow EchoMail digest. I simply modified this program to kill selected messages and filter the mail a second time before I personally read the messages. So far this hasn't stopped Bornstein's messages from being gatewayed, but his recent tirade might just change that, esp. if I receive a few more complaints about him from readers of INFO-DEC-MICRO/comp.sys.dec.micro. I don't want to lose my objectivity, but to date I've seen little support for his actions and lots of complaints. BTW: I've noticed Bornstein has yet to figure out the difference between my personal messages and messages forwarded from INFO-DEC-MICRO/ comp.sys.dec.micro. Are others having this problem? (I've also noticed Bornstein usually engages his fingers before his brain when replying so they may not be).
