REOS?) Message-ID: <283@ns-mx.uiowa.edu> Date: 10 Dec 89 20:03:28 GMT Sender: news@ns-mx.uiowa.edu Reply-To: amthor@umaxc.weeg.uiowa.edu (Geoffrey Amthor) Organization: U of Iowa, Iowa City, IA Lines: 20 I've been monitoring this group for some time, and have been disappointed that no one seems to be talking about IBM's new workstation line that's supposed to roll out early next year. I am in desperate need of upgrading to a new system, and the dearth of information is hurting me, as I have to commit soon. I'm certainly not a traditional IBM RT type (I don't own one), as I'm not really into engineering/scientific. But the new line is apparently going to be positioned as a business workstation as well, something between a PS/2 and an AS/400. A couple capabilities that it *may* have I would really like to see: the ability to run multiple sessions of DOS, and the ability to use NeXTStep as a user interface. The ability to run OS/2 PM would be really sweet, too. I'm clueless as to what a base system would cost; I know I need a high-res monitor (I hear IBM's got some fancy color, too), a medium size drive (150-300 MB), but I don't need absolutely crunching speed. My questions.... Why isn't this group talking about what's coming up? Is it that the new line will be incompatible, so you guys don't care? Or is it that you don't like rumormilling? Or have I just got the wrong user group? In any case, if anyone in the know could bring me up to speed on the new line, I'd be much obliged.
