The problem is a know bug in Word 4; it is caused by trying to print
postscript in the first page of a document, and having background printing
enabled.  Either turn off backround printing or rearrange the order of the
pages in your document.  This was documented in the package that came with
word (perhaps in an errata sheet - I don't remember.)
