Message-ID: <1903@lamont.ldgo.columbia.edu> Date: 7 Dec 89 02:59:20 GMT Organization: Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory N.Y. Lines: 32 Hello, Last night I was downloading some data from our VAX in Texas to my Mac+ for use in Excel. I needed to replace the spaces between the columns of data with tabs and I was using something called Nac-Tabs. After running the Program I tried to open Excel to paste the data and heard a loud pop from the top/left/back of the Mac+. The screen first blanked out and then came back with odd patterns on a flickering screen. I powered down and restarted with no apparent problem and the pop did not happen again. However, after modifying a few data files I began to get a number of system errors with ID=12 and/or ID=28. After a while I didn't get them anymore, but I had moved on to other tasks by that time. Can someone tell me: 1) What was the pop? Is it serious? Anything to be done? 2) Were the later system errors related to the pop or should I look at the combination of programs I was running? 3) When I get these ID numbers is there some place for me to look up what they mean? I'm fairly new to the Mac world and could use a hand in getting educated. Any help you could send my way would be greatly appreciated. You can reply by e-mail to: mudpit@lamont.ldgo.columbia.edu The system is a Mac+ with 2.5 meg, Ehman 30+ hard drive, System 6.0.2, Excel 1.04, and Nac-Tab 4.0. Thanks much in advance. -- Dan Quoidbach Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory
