It's simple, elegant and stupid. I kicked myself several times for not thinking of it sooner. Here's the situation : If you sneakernet a mail folder over to your next, and then try to read out of it, you will get errors along the lines of "Old format, convert?" and then you convert and all your "Next Attachment" lines get screwed up and you don't receive the articles you really needed for the first issue of your newsletter -- assuming of course that every one of you are trying to start a newsletter. Ditto - you get corrupted voice mail resources, et al. Here's the solution : 1. sneakernet the mail folder over as before. 2. cat folder >> /usr/spool/mail/your_account then read mail as usual. NeXT does not store the messages any differently than any other machine -- it is only the folders/ archives that are different. You can now read the mail messages from the folder as fresh "N"ew mail. Here's the gripe : You'd think that the Mailboxes reading old-format mail from non-spool locations would recognize their own "Next Attachments" line! Let me know if this helps anyone. I have a silly desire to know if I was the only one having these problems.
