I think the twm R4 is Ok, but in the meantime, just say in your .Xdefault: *.waitforwm: false That should do the trick. PS: uwm do not reparent windows and is not ICCCM-compliant, so it should be a little faster than the reparenting WMs, but with X11R4, the difference shouldn't be noticeable.
