Forgive me if this is a multiple post, but my mailer is being difficult.

I have an application A which creates a window then starts other applications.
I would like these other applications to get their I/O from A's window. So:

1) Is it possible for two (or more) applications to use the same InputOutput
   window?

2) How do I make the necessary connections.
   --passing the window ID between the applications leads to a protocol
     error.

3) Is it possible to do this without a window manager?
