The design of a filing system for multimedia office documents has to address a number of issues including the definition of a suitable data model and query language, content-based retrieval, man-machine interaction, support of the document life cycle, huge storage requirements and document classification. MULTOS is an ESPRIT project concerned with the design of a multimedia office filing system. This talk will comprise an overview of the MULTOS prototype system and a discussion of the document retrieval function including access methods and user interface design.
