I suspect that it was made with at least a certain amount of navy cooperation. I saw it when it first came out and sort of forgot it. A couple of years ago, I went to visit the Intrepid museum in New York. Down at one end of the hangar deck, there was a theatre showing films of modern carrier operations. Something or other about the film seemed vaguely familiar, but I couldn't quite place it. A few months after that, I saw "The Final Countdown" again, and I think I know why the film at the Intrepid seemed so familiar: It had the same background music as the "Final Countdown"! - Bill Sommerfeld wesommer@athena.mit.edu
