Ltd"? These directories are available for most Canadian cities, and I'm sure they exist in the States, too. You should take a look at one (York University's Map Library has them, for example), to see all the nifty information it contains (like profession, household income, number in household, surname, etc.) There are normally 2 lists: alpha by address and numerical by phone number. I'm not sure where they get the information, but this is the first time I've ever heard them actually ask for it. As to the issue of privacy, it's kind of scary to know that all this information is collected and published about everyone in urban areas. It's even scarier that most people don't know that it is all so accessible.
