Not only that, but if the outer glass bulb breaks, but the inner gas discharge element doesn't it will generate some VERY SERIOUS UV radiation. Probably enough to kill everything in your tank and cause you some serious burns. There are lots of warnings about this inthe lighting catalogs; they even make special bulbs that turn themselves off if the outer glass jacket is broken.
