I'm not sure exactly how they differ either.  I've seen the pictures in
Baensch's Atlas, van Ramshorst's Aquarium Encyclopedia and in several
other places (Axelrod's) and they seem to confuse E.siamensis with
other similar looking cyprinids.  The picture in Baensch seems to be of
a Characidium sp., which is a S. American darter-like characin.
