    Just a parenthetic interjection (wow!!!), but I recall fondly
    something I once read that bears on this thread:  it was in
    (I believe) Nancy Friday's "My Secret Garden".  One of the
    women describing her fantasy life paused to note that she and 
    her husband called what they did for sex 'fucking' because they
    considered their whole relationship to be 'making love'.

    Being an ol' incurable romantic myself, I like it...
