The loss follows the company's considerable outlay of resources to implement IBM's new consumer transaction (CT) product in a total branch automation system. Since no other company is using the CT product in such a manner, SS may eventually benefit greatly from IBM's marketing strategy, although such benefits won't be realized for some time.
