Advances outnumbered declines 762 to 750 with traded volumes hitting the 185 million mark. Technology stocks enjoyed a good return with all of them ending the day higher. IBM closed at $100.675--up $2 on rumours that the company will report a profitable quarter in line with expectations. AT&T moved up--despite the glitch that hit its US network on Monday--and touched $43.125, up $0.50 for the day. NCR, meanwhile, moved up by $2.75 to $63.75, Compaq Computer gained $2.375 to $83.875, while Digital hit $89.125 - up by $4.125 - and Cray Research moved up by $1.75 to close at $38.875.
