INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) -- Detlef Schrempf and Chuck Person each scored 24 points, leading seven Indiana players in double figures, and the Pacers routed Golden State 144-105 Monday night to snap the Warriors' six-game winning streak. The Pacers led 44-28 after one quarter and 86-48 at halftime, setting Indiana records for first-quarter points, second-quarter points and scoring in a half. Indiana's previous first-quarter best was 42, set in 1980 against New York. The Pacers' previous second quarter high was 41 against Kansas City in 1978. The previous record half was 84 against Houston in 1979. The bench for Indiana (22-15) scored 78 points and played most of the last three quarters. Calvin Natt scored 16 points off the bench, while starters Vern Fleming and Rik Smits added 15 each for Indiana as every Pacer scored. Indiana sank 33 of 47 shots in the first half, and by halftime it was only a matter of how large the final margin would become. Golden State came no closer than 36 in the second half, achieving that when Terry Teagle sank the first basket of the third quarter. Indiana stretched its lead as large as 142-89 on a basket by Natt with 3:24 remaining. The Warriors scored 16 straight points in the next 2:41, depriving the Pacers of their record win margin. Teagle and Sarunas Marciulionis led Golden State with 20 points each while Mitch Richmond added 19. Golden State, which had been the NBA's hottest team, fell to 16-18. The Warriors are 2-13 away from home after losing the first stop on a five-game road trip, their longest of the season. Golden State's Don Nelson coached his 1,000th NBA game Monday night, making him and Seattle coach Lenny Wilkens the only men to play in 1,000 NBA games and coach in 1,000 NBA games. Nelson, 49, was thwarted in his quest for a 600th career coaching victory. Nelson won 500 games faster than any other coach in NBA history. Nelson, whose playing career spanned 14 years, has won more regular season games than any other NBA coach over the past 10 seasons. Nelson was a member of five NBA championship teams at Boston.
