DGTERM in PD2: on Simtel20 supports background download/upload with XMODEM or YMODEM-BATCH... Crashes the system every once in a while though, if I remember correctly. Evidently the comm program that comes with PC-TOOLS (Centralpoint) supports background XMODEM too.
