A couple of questions from a (not-quite) novice regarding fonts:

1) Is there any way to use unencoded characters in a font without changing
the font encoding vector?  (Sounds like a pretty stupid question, but I'd
like to make sure before I start creating a new font for the purpose...)

2) How does one go about including selected characters from *several*
built-in fonts into a single (user-defined) font?  Is it possible at all??
