I would like to correct you on one point, that is that most lute music has been transcribed for guitar...nothing could be further from the case, as a lutenist and concert guitarist my experience is that probably no more than 10% of intabulated music (16th to 18th century) for plucked stringed instruments has been transcribed for the guitar, you may be able to add another 10% or 20% to that figure if you include academic theses but those are usually done at pitch on two staves-not a very friendly system for a guitarist to play from! As a university instructor I feel that learning tablature is essential for a complete education as a guitar major and can open the door to the discovery of really rich repertoire. Alan Rinehart, UBC
