BOARD From: RICK MELLON Jim, If you take the 18 64K chips from Board 2 and place them in Banks 2 and 3 of Board 1 (with the 9 256K chips already in Bank 1), your DIP switch settings should be: Switch 1 2 3 4 On x x Off x x If you do the opposite -- place the 9 256K chips in Bank 3 of Board 1 -- your settings should be: Switch 1 2 3 4 On x x Off x x Either way, you have 384K on the expansion board + 128K on the motherboard = 512K total. BTW, if you're interested, now's not a bad time to replace those 64K chips with 256K chips. As of a couple of months ago, you could buy 120ns 256K chips at about $2.60 per chip. --Rick --- * Origin: (142/0)TelTalk BBS, CT*HST*(203)674-1802 (Opus 1:142/328) ------------------------------ Date: 01-14-90 (18:28) To: DAVE SPAULDING Subject: RE: COMMUNICATION PORT AD From: BILL MAYHEW Tell your friend to save his time... it won't work. The Rainbow communication hardware is completely different from that on an IBM PC, and software written for IBM PC comm ports just flat-out won't work (unless the author took care to support the Rainbow as well, and those are few and far between). --- QM v1.00 * Origin: Still Servicing the Rainbow - Maybee Forever (1:101/1.0) ------------------------------ Date: 01-13-90 (23:35) To: DAVID STRICKLER Subject: N From: DAVE SPAULDING Thanks for the advice. I know my friend would love to use Telix, but I guess what he really wants is to be able to use a transfer protocol other than Kermit which is what he is using now. I will pass your suggestions on to him. Thanks again, Dave Spaulding. --- * Origin: FOG-LINE, Reg 14 REC, 515-964-7937 (Opus 1:290/627) ------------------------------
