The disadvantage is apparently that you need to type wierd escape sequences to get the ascii parts of a figure to come out and can't easily preview the results. Presumably this is because the two programs don't understand latex. A few people have asked if we could run dvi2ps hear at Cornell and distribute postscript. This is certainly a possibility too.
