Root) Organization: The Internet Lines: 23 I have been working with an application that uses plane masks to allocate 6 planes for image plus 1 plane for overlay. (For my convenience, I use contiguous colormap cells.) The application adds and erases the overlay information by enabling only the overlay mask, writing 1 or 0 as appropriate into that plane, disables the overlay mask and reenables the image planes. When pointed at DecStation, VAXStation, or Tektronix Xterminal, the behavior is correct. When pointed at a Sun station (3/60, 3/260, SparcStation running 3.4, 3.5 or 4.0 OS) the overlay appears, but does not go away when 0 is written back into the overlay (or another 1 under Xor). This occurs under the MIT X-11.3 server and the OpenWindows/xnews 1.0 server (with or without FCS, whatever that is). Has anyone seen the same problems using plane masks? Does anyone know of a cure? Will the problem disappear with R4? Reply to: stew@hanauma.stanford.edu
