I am trying to read my e-mail while in emacs, using rmail. However, it seems to be trying to write in the system mail directory. I believe it is writing only temporary files there, however the directory is (and should be) write protected to the common user. I am running emacs version 18.54.1 on version 6.5 of HP's Unix. The mail system directory is /usr/mail. When I make this directory writeable by all, the emacs rmail facility runs fine, though it leaves no files in the directory. I can't find a variable to set to specify the "scratch" directory without modifying where the mail is monitored. It seems this "scratch" directory should be specified as the user's home directory. Do you know any workaround to this problem? Have I missed something or do I misunderstand this issue? Thanks, Denny Renfrow Hewlett-Packard dmr@hpda.hp.com
