You are right about it being a permission problem, though its sure a strange error behavior. Check the nntp_access file on your server system (probably in a /usr/local/lib/news directory, but it may be elsewhere). You need to have a line like ralph READ POST in order to be able to read the news from the system named ralph. You may find that you instead need the full domain name of the "ralph" system as in ralph.dfrf.nasa.gov READ POST Seems like this should be unnecessary, but our installation doesn't work without it.
