Seems to me that the "standard" libraries or library functions are a part of the language whether they're part of the ansi def. or K&R or what. To call C a "small, lean & mean" language is a joke when you realize it takes about a 500 page book to describe each function in the Turbo C package! Somebody here once raged on a about the number of reserved words in forth vs C, claiming that that number indicated someting about the size or power of the language.
