I bought DVIII a couple weeks back.

I wasn't a DVII user so I can't tell you how much better it is but I have
pieced together some info regarding it and one of its competitors. From 
what I understand DVII had a nice interface but lacked in its capabilites
versus The Director. DVIII has kept and enhanced the interface and added 
capabilites to make it surpass The Director. Like I said, I wasn't a DVII user
and I haven't used The Director but this was info I pieced together when 
deciding on what video integration package to get.
