CTYPE lets you set the cursor shape, and STICK is a TSR that keeps waking up and resetting that shape. Only problem is you lose the fat/thin shape change that WPs use to indicate things like overstrike/insert mode or caps lock on/off. I use these exactly as you wish to - Epsilon on a T1000. -jeff-
