Keywords: Miscellaneous Message-ID: <4328@brazos.Rice.edu> Date: 10 Jan 90 02:15:11 GMT Sender: root@rice.edu Organization: Sun-Spots Lines: 18 Approved: Sun-Spots@rice.edu X-Sun-Spots-Digest: Volume 9, Issue 10, message 10 of 22 We are contemplating the installation of a cluster of 2 or 3 SparcServers in the 330 to 370 class to provide basic unix service, (as opposed, for example, to high-end research power) for campus users. (More machines could be integrated into the cluster in the future.) Access would be via a combination of serial and network connections, and expected uses are primarily of mail/news/editing and small statistical packages. If you have already done something similar, how many simultaneous users have you found that these machines can comfortably handle without a serious degradation in interactive response? Are there any configurations you would avoid? Please send email to samg@tank.uchicago.edu and I will summarize.
