How -> is he simulating the neural activity ? While I'm not familiar with Dr. Traub's research, it sounds like he's describing some general results of cellular automata research. My memory is kind of fuzzy in this area, but as I recall Turing was doing research in this area, attempting to explain things like brain waves, animal stripes and spots, and what-not. Conways "Life" program is an example of a cellular automata system.
