I should have said: Where else can I spend $6500, and get a machine at street prices that copmares about the same in performance benchmarks as medium quality Stand-Alone Suns and other workstations that you are likely to find on a deskTop. (look at Byte's latest Unix benchmaks---Primary the Everex System---- You can get clone systems that are give 98% of the speed of the Everex and cost $4000. All that need be added are the co-processor graphics system, the hard-drive and the operating system----Easily can be done for under $2500) I admit I did get a little carryed away in my original posting--But I do still stand by my general view of X running at least Motif.... I was actually really looking forward to seeing Motif on our machines until I saw its performance. It was only when I saw Motif run on a DecStation 3100 configured almost identically to the ~$39,000 Reviewed model in Byte a couple of months ago, that I have seen what I consider acceptable (In this case- much better than acceptable---blinding) implementation. Yet the point remains, X running Motif is expensive for the performance that it actually yeilds! Dean Wallwey
