I have a 30 meg hard drive but must recompile the kernel to get it to work correctly. Is it possible to recompile the kernel on a two 360K floppy system with 640K RAM? I have tried but ran out of space on the disk with kernel source. I manually compiled the kernel with cc -c -Di8088 -w *.c and all went fine....then with all the .s files I used make and ran out of space. I have also heard that performance is lost after a recompile. Is this true? In the book and manual it mentions the possibility of using MS-DOS as the development system. Is this practical, and if so any suggestions on what compiler to use?
