It is much more robust, and can be used to tell the PC many more interesting things than just its IP address... In fact, the CMU implementation allows you to specify (per PC):: Subnet mask, Default gateway, Domain name server, IEN-116 name server, Time server, Cookie server (fortunes, I think), IMPress server, log server, lpr server, etc etc etc etc... If you would like, I could mail you a (slightly fixed) version. It is also available via anonymous FTP from lancaster.andrew.cmu.edu (128.2.13.21), without the bug fixed. One of these days I'm going to mail back the bug fix. (Just found it today: Watch what it passes to report() when the bind fails or the getsockname fails!) It has been tested with FTP Software's BOOTP client, and seems to work. Just a satisfied user. Oh yeah.... IMPress is probably a copyright of Imagen Corp. -- Steve Watt ...!claris!wattres!steve wattres!steve@claris.com also works If you torture your data long enough, it'll eventually confess.
