The monitor was about $500, the A1000 was about $1300. You said $2500 for just the Amiga 1000. It's one thing to come out with a new innovative machine with all new hard ware, but after you release it you get locked into a catch-22 like situation. You have to stay compatible with the software already out there or you risk losing your customers, and you need to keep improving your hardware or you fall behind in the market. Standards are the biggest stumbling block in the way of innovation, but they are also the only thing that keeps us from going broke and insane trying to keep up with new technology. Once you commit yourself to a specific standard (such as MSDOS, VGA, Amiga graphics, NTSC) you have to support it. That makes improvements slow down. The Amiga is coming out with some new graphic modes (needs more if you ask me) but it's not as big a leap as when the amiga first came out (compare amiga graphics to the EGA standard of the day). --- Sideline: Hey Dave Haynie: since CBM is changing 2 of the three custom chips to improve the graphics, why not go all out and give us a new disk controller so AmigaDOS can support High-Density disk drives? 1.76 meg drives would be nice! -- John Sparks | D.I.S.K. 24hrs 1200bps.
