I have tried doing the <SHIFT><S> in setup but the computer beeped implying
that it was an illegal keystroke. And after the reset the parameters were
back to the default.

I think that I forgot to mention in the original posting that this
is a Rainbow 100+. If there is some way of setting the parameters in 
autoexec.bat that would solve the problem as well.
