She says it should ideally be based on the Pin Yin phonetic system, where she would type the Mandarin phonetic for a word and select the appropriate character from the ones that match the given Pin Yin spelling. It can either be IBM-PC or Macintosh based, most likely the output would go to either an HP LaserJet II or an Apple Laserwriter IIntx. Thanks for your recommendations.
