Step 1.  Figure out what you currently have, it's probably an MFM drive.

Step 2.  Decide how big of a drive you want.

Step 3.  Open a recent copy of PC-WEEK, Byte, Computer Shopper, etc.

Step 4.  (optional) Go to a nearby computer swap meet & pay $5.00 to get in.

Step 5.  Find the lowest price.

Step 6.  Buy it.  Make sure that you get cables and the Manufacturer's
         installation instructions and a copy of DISK MANAGER software.  
         Or have the dealer/vendor install it for you.

Step 7.  Low level format.  Since you have an IBM, there is probably no
         "on board" BIOS to do this; use DISK MANAGER to do this.  If using
         MS/PC-DOS 3.20 or less, just let DISK MANAGER do the format,
         partitioning, and high-level formatting.

Step 8.  Run FDISK to partition the disk.  DOS 3.31 and up, one big partition
         should suffice, 3.30, you decide, DOS 3.20, DISK MANAGER has already
         done this for you.

Step 9.  High level format.  DOS FORMAT will do. 

Step 10. Reach around and pat yourself on the back.

Step 11. Have yourself a beer to celebrate.
