StuffIt is very useful and has lots of features, but it has one problem as far as I'm concerned, and that's that it's shareware. I never seem to get around to paying for shareware, and I sometimes feel guilty for not paying, so I use freeware if I can. If (for whatever reason) you're not going to pay the shareware fee, then the combination of BinHex 4.0 and UnStuffIt allows you to unpack BinHexed and StuffIt-ed files without incurring any shareware obligations. You only need StuffIt if you want to create .sit archives. (StuffIt is certainly quicker and easier than Binhex/UnstuffIt, but if you're not going to pay for it, you really shouldn't use it.) You should be able to find UnStuffIt in the same places that Mr. Fischer suggests you find StuffIt. If anyone needs BinHex or UnStuffIt and can't get them from an online service or user group, they can contact me and I'll try to arrange something with them.
