The DeskWriter driver is just working like crazy to try to format the document in such little available RAM. Your best bet would be to add RAM to your system. The second approach would be to somehow free up RAM like using fewer INITs. On a 1 Meg Mac with some applications the DeskWriter is pretty marginal in the performance department -- regretably. Fortunately RAM prices are pretty good lately. You would get many benefits of adding RAM. The DeskWriter will also perform faster if you have a RAM cache of around 64K -- assuming you have enough spare RAM in the first place (2 meg or more). If you have more than 1 meg on your system already, the above comments do not apply, and I haven't a clue as to your difficulty. Dave Neff neff@hpvcfs1.HP.COM
