My question has been answered by a number of people, all of whom
I wish to thank. When a multifinder aware application that has
canBackground set is launched, it goes into the background until
either getNextEvent, WaitNextEvent, or EventAvail is called a few
times. So, I added this to my code prior to building the window,
and all is nice.
