(I HOPE FOR AN EASY FIX) ]2) What are the causes of RPC authentication error ]3) Any suggestions on an approach to the problem, I have tryed most everything. ] Here are some suggestions, it has been a while since I run into this. Check to see if the Sun 4 is running with secure RPC/NFS. I used to run into this kind of problems when I managed a Sun386i network running SunOS 4.0.0 (can you say beta? thought you could :^>). Look for the keyserv process on the Sun 4. You should turn it off because as far as I know, DEC does not have secure RPC/NFS. Comment out the line that starts keyserv up in /etc/rc and reboot. The problem here is that the Sun 4 is asking your VAX for a key (look in /etc/publickey on the Sun) and the VAX doesn't have it. Also check your /etc/exports file and make sure that the filesystems you want to mount on Ultrix side has the "root=Ultrix_host_name" parm. I have a VAXstation 3100 and a Sun 4/110 on my network without any trouble mounting NFS filesys between them. The problem with the 386i (actually SunOS 4.0.0) was that the publickey file get out of sync between slaves/master servers, and clients. -- Tin Le -- Tin Le | UUCP: {wyse, claris, uunet}!aimt!tinle Sr. Software Engineer | Internet: tinle@aimt.uu.net AIM Technology | XBBS (408)-739-1520 19.2K Telebit+ Santa Clara, CA | Public Usenet access
