I got a prompt response from David Elliott. Apparently, Sony's X11R3 server does some of the error checking that most servers started doing in release 4. The scollbar problem goes away when I turn on backwards compatibility mode by using the "bc" option when running the server (xinit or Xnews). It appears that the HP-UX 7.0 server and the X11/NeWS server also are stricter than early X11R3. I know that I can run X11R4 from the MIT release and run xset bc, but we have customers running the HP-UX 7.0 server as shipped from HP and the X11/NeWS server as shipped by Sun. Is there any way to turn on backwards compatibility for these two servers? Alan Michels michels@ide.com ..!{sun,uunet}!ide!michels
