I am posting the following question for a friend who does not have news access.

  I have the need for reliable interprocess communication between
  processes that are X clients. What is the most appropriate scheme ?
  If I use sockets (the environment is BSD Unix) how do I keep track of both
  X events and file descriptors, without losing the "time ordering" of
  both classes of events ?
