First, I am so involved for one reason because I produce a screen reading package for the Amiga called Ami-Talk (free demo available upon request) which allows a blind person to use almost any piece of off-the-shelf software. In my opinion having the "say" command is of little use to a blind person since one it can only read a file, not help you interact with software at all, and two even, there is no control over the speech, the amount of punctuation pronounced or how it is said, or even the ability to shut it up once it has started.
