Yesterday Walter Koenig appeared at a local comic con , and he had some 
interesting news.

    Since fan reaction to the "Academy Days" story was so overwhelmingly
negative, that story has been officially shelved.  Paramount apparently had
people at the cons to observe fan reaction to the idea.  Walter was very
grateful to the fans for this occurrence.

    However, the idea of using new actors has not been shelved.  Nimoy and
Shatners salaries are very high, being 50% of the production cost for the
movie.  There is still a push to get the movie out for the 25 anniversary.

    Walter has written a script for the movie that would end it all
with a bang.  It hasn't been accepted but it also hasn't officially
been rejected.  Walter also feels that if it comes out, VI will be that
last OST movie.

    When asked about his appearing in ST:TNG, he has a peculiar reaction.
He muttered something about the idea sounding similar to an idea he proposed,
and then he asked me what I had heard.  Then he explained that he was asked
to submit ideas for TNG while it was in pre-production.  One idea had 
Uhura, Scotty, and Chekov (the 3 cheapest actors :) ) guesting.  Roddenbury
didn't like that idea.  He also submitted the idea about him appearing as
Chekov's son (the synopsis being quite similar to the one posted here).
He did not know what came of that idea.  I am taking this as a good sign
that this scene will appear eventually.

     Overall, I quite enjoyed seeing Walter in person.  He had a good sense
of humor and took awkward question with great sensitivity.  He does some great 
impersonations. 

     One final note, his movie Moontrap {?} did so well in home video that
a sequel is being made.
