I believe that the phone could have malfunctioned.
I saw the same thing happen to a friends phone when he
attempted to transmit on a frequency where his antenna
had a high SWR.
The problem was compounded when the police called him back
and his daughter said that her father was playing.
He turned white as a sheet.
We all got a good laugh out of it though.
